IBA SUPRALZETTE
This ambitious work-in-progress (2020–2032) aims for an IBA process on the transboundary ‘Dogger’ zone (France – Luxembourg). IBA, Internationale Bauaustellung, is an agile and open strategy using architectural experimentation to induce societal recalibration. The 20th century coal and steel claim on the territory has left the area without any clear contemporary DNA or communal civic vision. At present the national border between the two countries is clearly felt as a physical, social and economic fault line. By focusing on the Dogger ecology, a 100 km2 transboundary reserve of protected though hardly felt nature, the border conundrum can be surpassed. IBA Dogger will focus on the development of new concepts for affordable collective housing, amenity mixers, sustainable energy sourcing (deep geothermia) and alternative economies. A physical IBA atelier is foreseen and will open soon, somewhere near the Dogger.
